My daughters and I really value the work we get to do at the rink with Rosie. We’ve been working with her for over a year now. What progress we’ve all made!
Sonia (6) and her friend Olivia work with Rosie every week, and have been inspired to participate in the APAISC annual skating championship as a result. They love working with Rosie because she really makes the lessons fun. (She even gives them little rewards sometimes!) My daughter Asya (12) has also done some coaching with Rosie in addition to weekly lessons with another coach, and has really appreciated Rosie’s insight. Her special one-off competition class before the show helped the girls run through their routines along with a group of other children, and to think about presentation, entrance and exit from the rink. I felt this was a particularly helpful addition to their weekly 1- or 2-on-1 coaching sessions.
As a mum, I see a lot of value for my kids in learning skating. Not only is it a super skill to learn in itself, as it builds coordination, balance, strength and stamina; I also feel the kids are learning important life skills such as presentation, poise and confidence from skating each week, and taking part in the competition in June. I think my daughters wanted to sign up in order to be allowed to wear beautiful skating dresses (!) -- but in fact they have gained a huge amount more than that from learning skating.
Guess what? It’s never too late! After bombing around on the ice like a sack of potatoes my whole life, I, too, have taken up skating lessons, and am finally learning to skate properly (I hope!). Rosie is the one who got me started. Although I don’t pick things up as quickly as my kids do, the feeling of working at a physical skill and learning something new are things I look forward to all week
Mother of Sonia and Asya
I booked a block of ice skating lessons at Alexandra Palace hoping to improve my basic skating skills. I turned up to the first lesson feeling a bit nervous and not knowing what to expect. My nerves soon disappeared once I had met our teacher Rosie. She was so friendly and welcoming. In the 8 weeks I went from a real beginner to achieving level 3 on Skate UK. This was all thanks to Rosies patience and fantastic teaching. It’s like skating with a friend every week whilst also learning new skills. I feel very lucky that Rosie continues to be my teacher now.
I feel really comfortable with Rosie as my coach and immensely enjoy our lessons together. We always have fun and I still feel I’m improving. Due to my fear of public performance I don’t take part in may competitions, however, at the time of my NISA Test Rosie really supported me and helped me feel proud of myself and even comfortable during the actual test. I think Rosie understands where I’m coming from and knows how to ensure I improve. Skating with her is like skating with a friend.
Rosie provides fun coaching for all ages and levels. She teaches lots of new things and has a great personality
I have always loved skating and have been wanting to improve my skills for a long time. I finally plucked up the courage to book skating lessons. It was the best decision I’ve made. What made it even better was that I got Rosie as my teacher. She makes the lessons fun and exciting. She is so patient and I feel with her as a teacher I never feel I can’t do something. In 8 weeks I have moved up 3 Skate UK levels. I loved my lessons so much I booked for another 8 weeks and am lucky enough to have Rosie again. I would recommend Rosie as a coach to anyone.
I really enjoy skating with Rosie for a lot of different reasons. One is she is really friendly and funny and she makes the lessons really enjoyable and creative. She is also very supportive and understanding. She is really well organised and is always very helpful. Rosie really helps me with my confidence when performing and I also feel that has helped with my confidence off ice too. Overall I really enjoy my lessons with Rosie and look forward to them a lot, despite the fact I have to get up at 6.20am on a Saturday but because they are so fun and informative it’s not a problem! I have made a lot of progress with Rosie and I really get on with her. She is an amazing teacher and I hope to continue achieving more things with her in the future.
I love being taught by Rosie because she makes everything fun and however well you do, in her view, its always excellent! Also she teaches us amazing routines and helps us with amazing routines and EPIC costumes. She always helps us with our jumps and spins and pushes us to achieve more than we thought we could. Rosie is the nicest skating teacher I know.
I wasn’t a very good skater before I started taking lessons at the age of 11 ½ but I’ve learnt a lot and become more attached to skating the more I do. I never took the sport seriously at first but now I love it so much I try my best to work hard on and off the ice to achieve my skating goals.
Rosie van Someren is my coach and seriously she’s amazing! She pushes you really hard and also has a lot of belief and supports you on and off the ice. Rosie has a nice side all the time but when you need the extra encouragement and a bigger push she will make sure you learn and do things correctly and perfectly. I love having my lessons with her every week as she’s funny and polite too. I‘ve learned a lot and have a good coach to student relationship. I did start quite late but I believe it’s never too late and if you work consistently hard to achieve your goal you will achieve it!
